I sent him an E-mail, didn't really know what to say other than he's right and what he did took courage.

I hope this situation turns out well for the young man, and that these assemblies are stopped.

That's what I was thinking too, Butch. People e-mailing him need to know that he is not an atheist so they don't go overboard with any assumptions. I also thought the point about how he is not trying to get religion out of his school is worth making. He simply wants the right to opt-out of attending religious assemblies. That sure doesn't seem like much to ask, does it?

Not that it matters to the point, but it’s good that people know so they aren’t firing off emails about those damn dirty Xians and their delusions. I read the letter and am shocked that these assemblies are allowed. I live on the west coast, this kind of thing would be unthinkable where I live and I respect this young man standing up to something that is blatantly wrong. He even put his case much more respectfully to the opposition than I would have.

I am planning to send him an e-mail of support; but I wanted to ask, if anyone here knows if he is an Atheist, or a secular minded theist. Not that it matters as such, but if he's an Atheist I'd add that there is a lot more of us out there.

Thanks for following up on this. I sent Wesley an email and I hope he is doing well. I've seen first hand how "good Christians" can treat their neighbors when their neighbors aren't the right religion or stand up for church/state separation. It's not a pretty sight. If this young man needs help, I want to be there for him if I can.
