Yours is a different perspective that we normally get discussing things among ourselves. While I understand your perspective of considering the baptism of a small child "indoctrination" , it bears mentioning that the pastor does say that the ceremony is actually about the parents commitment to expose the child to church, the church's commitment to nurture and care for the child, and the parents' demonstration of the teachings of Christ in their parenting of the child "until such time as he/she can make a decision for his/herself". The child is typically an infant in these ceremonies and the ceremony is clearly not aimed at persuading the child to believe any certain way. &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Please feel free to attend again. I have never attended one of these "mega churches" with the video screens, stage, etc. It really sounds like they are focusing as much on the entertainment as the message. I suppose that is a sign of the times in that it probably helps fill the pews.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Some of these huge churches, Temple Baptist would probably be the best example in Hattiesburg, almost seem like self-contained communities. It seems we've gone from "hellfire and brimstone" to "feel-good" Christianity.
